Recent research highlighted that Boldon Newtown is in the worst 5% nationally both in terms of income deprivation and enterprise and jobs with worklessness at 30%.  The area is also in the worst 5% nationally in terms of child poverty. The local Authority, South Tyneside along with Residents with a large social housing provider in the area, Home Housing, agreed to create a Neighbourhood Management team to address many of the problems identified in the research. The team have funding till March 2008 and it is hoped this will be extended further.
